Get Healthy: Change the Conversation With Yourself

You shouldn’t eat that. You should really go workout. You should be able to fit into these jeans by now. Here’s an idea: Stop “shoulding” all over yourself. We all know that negative self-talk doesn’t work. It isn’t inspiring or encouraging. Instead, negative self-talk creates a feeling of guilt, or even worse, shame. We do our best to offer positive words of encouragement to our partners, our children and our girlfriends. We can offer those same words of encouragement to ourselves. Part of getting healthy is changing the conversation with yourself. Part of changing anything begins with you. When something bad happens When we feel down or in crisis, the negative inner diatribe rears its ugliest head. We revert back to the angry words of our parents, our partners or anyone we’ve encountered who said something in a moment of frustration. Can you separate yourself from the conversation as it’s happening in your mind? Perhaps finding a quiet place where you can listen even clearer will help. Writing it down can help. As frightening as it may seem, being alone with your thoughts is one of the simplest ways of realizing that you are in control of your thoughts.   Nurture yourself When your child makes a mistake or your girlfriend reaches out to you after a bad day, what do you say to them? Are your first thoughts words of comfort? “I’m here for you.” “It’s just a mistake. We all make mistakes.” “I’m sorry you’ve had a bad day. The good news is that you can start again tomorrow.” Our natural instinct is to comfort and nurture... read more

Four Elements of the Modern Day Warrior

Every personality and body type on this planet is different. Part of knowing yourself is understanding what soothes versus what irritates. Some things just feel right where others feels uncomfortable. Not everyone is the same. Are you a homebody? Are you so driven by wanderlust that you can’t stay in one place for very long? Are you even keeled? Are you driven and passionate and cannot be stopped? These are all elements of the Modern Day Warrior. Not one is better than the other. Knowing which one fits you, however, will help you to make better choices for a happier you. Fire A fire person is, not surprisingly, “on fire” with ideas, driven, dynamic, impulsive and charismatic. Their passion and commitment to their life’s mission burns so brightly that no one can stop them. They’re positive and active go-getters who never let anything get them down for long. Earth Being grounded is the earth’s personality. She nests and feels very comfortable in one place – her home, her job, and her relationships. She sets achievable goals that she knows she can reach in her own methodical and disciplined way. Wind A wind person moves with the wind. Quite the opposite from an “earth”, a wind is able to focus on many things at once. Seeing the big picture and naturally a free thinker, this personality will follow the beat of their own drum. Water Water goes with the flow. She feels things very deeply and trusts her intuitive feelings. A water person has a general idea of her path but is malleable enough to change course, if need be.... read more

Are You a Warrior?

The traditional connotation of the word “warrior” brings to mind a fighter or someone who specializes in a form of combat. When we think of a female warrior, our thoughts conjure a picture of strong, Amazonian women who could hold their own in a battle as well as or better than their male counterparts. At Warrior Elements, we celebrate the lifestyle of the modern day warrior. Body strength may not always be necessary in the battles we face daily. In order to win the war, we must also have inner strength – body, mind and spirit. Let us define the powers of the Modern Day Warrior. Discipline Gaining strength in any sense comes from discipline. Goals can only be accomplished with daily steps toward that goal. Discipline is a practice in smaller targets. Some days are better than others. Sometimes you may not hit the target for that day. Can you keep going anyway? Are you motivated and determined enough to allow yourself a day of “almost” and push further again tomorrow? Confidence You’ve probably heard this before but only YOU can know YOU. You know what feels right to you. You know when enough is enough or when you can push yourself. You know what goals you want to reach. What you have to remember, however, is not everyone is going to agree with the decisions you make for yourself. Some may balk at your diet choices or your decision to get to bed early. Some may even project their own mixed feelings about themselves onto you. A warrior has the confidence to stand true to herself, her goals,... read more

Why Warrior Elements?

Some of you may be asking, “Why Warrior Elements?” Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gail Warrior. While many of us may not be defined by their name, I actually do consider myself a warrior. I am a fitness and health driven warrior, mom and entrepreneur. Every single day I make decisions to support this way of life. I wake up early. I get to bed early. I exercise as often as I can, particularly in the mornings when I can bring my son. I shop the perimeter of the grocery store and choose whole, organic foods to nourish my body. I cook most of my meals at home so that my son and I can eat well and stay healthy within a budget. I make time to play, relax, and find balance from an otherwise hectic schedule. I run marathons, compete in fitness competitions and have been every size of clothing from a size 2 to a 12. Fitness and nutrition have given me a sense of body awareness that I never had before. The way I see it, everything we do or put in our bodies eventually shows up on our bodies. Making the best decisions now, whether they’re popular or supported by others in my life, means saving the pain of injury or illness later. Besides, I plan on running a marathon at age 100! I have also always had a keen eye for fashion. As a busy entrepreneur and mom, I know that it is often difficult to maintain a healthy way of life. But I do believe that it IS possible and that... read more
