Training vs. Working Out: You’ll Benefit From Knowing the Difference

Have you ever been shopping at the grocery store and then come home to realize that you have nothing to make for dinner? Instead of planning your week of meals and knowing exactly what you need to prep and cook those meals, you wandered into the grocery store and grabbed what sounded good. You’ve probably been doing the same thing at the gym. You wander into the gym and hop on a machine all in the guise of “working out”. If you haven’t made a plan or know what you’re aiming for, however, you may find you’re not seeing much of a difference. What’s Your Goal? As with your meal plan, you should have a fitness plan as well. Who is your fitness idol? Are you looking at a fitness competition? Do you want to run a marathon, triathlon or some other endurance race? Once you know what you’re aiming for, you’re more apt to hit that target! A goal gives you something to aim for every time you’re at the gym, on that bike or running trail. You know, for instance, if you want to run a 5K, you have to start with running a little bit more every single day.  Any exercise is activity but training has a specific purpose in mind. Push Yourself Once you begin to meet the smaller targets towards your goal, you will find where you need to make improvements. Everyone has a weakness but you may not find those weak points until you are pushing yourself further. Now that you’ve identified areas of improvement, you may need to find a coach or...

5 Stages of Your Personal Fitness Plan

You have probably tried fitness programs and wondered why they didn’t work for you. In many cases, it’s the simple challenge of planning or lack of focus on your goal. We’re all “too busy” or distracted. It’s time to drop the excuses and make your fitness plan a priority. Only you know what goals you want to accomplish and only you can do the work to get there. Here are 5 stages of a personal fitness plan. Dream Your dream is distinctly that, YOUR dream. A fitness dream can be anything from losing 10 lbs to losing 100 lbs. Your dream may not be about losing weight at all. Is your dream to be a triathlete? Is your dream to be in a fitness competition? Is your dream to find health, without pain, and live a long, balanced and healthy life? Start there, with the big picture. Write it down. Goal Once you’ve decided on your big picture dream, set a goal for yourself. If your dream is to get healthy, your goal may start with changing your nutrition, getting to your doctor for a physical, or starting physical therapy to relieve pain. If you want to run a marathon, your next step will be to start running! Your goals could be “Run a 5K by this date. Run a 10K by this date. Run a half marathon by this date.” This will push you toward your goal date for your marathon. Your goals need not be big goals. Every smaller goal you accomplish is a step on the way to your dream. Plan With every goal there are...

Why Warrior Elements?

Some of you may be asking, “Why Warrior Elements?” Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gail Warrior. While many of us may not be defined by their name, I actually do consider myself a warrior. I am a fitness and health driven warrior, mom and entrepreneur. Every single day I make decisions to support this way of life. I wake up early. I get to bed early. I exercise as often as I can, particularly in the mornings when I can bring my son. I shop the perimeter of the grocery store and choose whole, organic foods to nourish my body. I cook most of my meals at home so that my son and I can eat well and stay healthy within a budget. I make time to play, relax, and find balance from an otherwise hectic schedule. I run marathons, compete in fitness competitions and have been every size of clothing from a size 2 to a 12. Fitness and nutrition have given me a sense of body awareness that I never had before. The way I see it, everything we do or put in our bodies eventually shows up on our bodies. Making the best decisions now, whether they’re popular or supported by others in my life, means saving the pain of injury or illness later. Besides, I plan on running a marathon at age 100! I have also always had a keen eye for fashion. As a busy entrepreneur and mom, I know that it is often difficult to maintain a healthy way of life. But I do believe that it IS possible and that...
